HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? 

The CUSTOM CD which you are purchasing contains the RaQ GUI on a CentOS 4 linux base, with an automated script that will install the complete set of packages required. All you need is a PC based system with a single IDE / Single SATA drive, Dual IDE / SATA drives. 

Once installation is complete, enter your IP address, subnet and gateway. That's it, you can now enter the IP address into any browser of any machine on the same network (or internet if you have an internet IP) and add as many domains as you like

One of the big advantages of this system, is that you can now have a PC based machine / web server which is much more powerful than any Sun Cobalt RaQ that was ever produced. And you have the excellent Raq550 GUI to control your websites!

Full installation instructions with pictures are included, and the resulting Webserver Appliance has the entire manual for the Raq 550 built into the interface!.

The problem with the Sun Cobalt RAQ webservers, has always been the cost of proprietary hardware and using relatively outdated hardware. Not Anymore!

Sun has now retired the RaQ models which pushed the prices of the RaQ range of servers up in the secondhand market. The most powerful of these boxes sported a 1.2 Ghz Pentium 3 CPU!

In 2003, Sun released the RaQ 550 OS (the last and best of the RaQ series) as open source . The web community united and built a version of the OS that would run on standard free linux packages. Most versions of these Linux packages and this 'special' version of the RaQ OS are available on the internet for free download. This is fine if you happen to be a Linux Expert in order to install them and get them working right!

The only difference between this OS and the Raq 550, is that we chose to leave out ASP and Frontpage support for stability. These can be installed separately if desired.

This is a much easier installation than most other systems out there, including the Solaris, Debian, NetBSD, FreeBSD, SUSE, SCO, Gentoo, Ubuntu, Mandriva, Mepis, Fedora, Gentoo, and other Linux / Unix server systems. No need to consult any Linux expert! 

You can run this OS on most types of PC, be it a desktop, laptop, workstation, server, webserver, 1U, 2U, 3U, 4U etc.

This Software uses a Web-based interface to enable easy administration from any web browser on the internal network, password protected and accessible remotely. Simply type in the IP address to access the server-interface, and everything can be controlled from here. It could not be any easier!

Requirements 

This OS supports; IDE, SATA, SCSI, and all three + RAID. 

Plus, you can do a  headless install.  Just attach a serial cable, and watch it come out via the Serial Port!
